Rumor: Zune Phone coming sooner than expected - yet in 2007 February 02, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. This rumor is unconfirmed and may be just another fake, but the problem is that Microsoft is not offering access to Zune Marketplace form Windows Mobile phones and if Zune Phone will be released then manufacturers of Windows Mobile phones will be competing with Microsoft - company that licenses to them Windows Mobile! In other words: Microsoft would be in position similar to situation in which Nokia is now: making Symbian S60 platform, licensing it to other manufacturers and at the same time making phones powered with the same platform... Some Microsoft managers were admitting publicly in past that Zune phone is coming sooner or later but latest rumor claims that it will come by the end of 2007! It could be that launch of Apple iPhone has stimulated Microsoft to take such decision but one is for sure: if Windows Mobile phones will not get access to Zune Market place - for example by releasing Zune client for Windows Mobile - then by releasing Zune Phone Microsoft will be hurting license takers of Windows Mobile. Microsoft should announce that soon Windows Mobile will have access to Zune Marketplace to prevent many manufacturers of Windows Mobile phones from walking away from Microsoft! Alternatively Microsoft could license Zune phone platform to manufacturers too. One of these 2 things is absolutely necessary to placate manufacturers of Windows Mobile phones!
