New article from Microsoft: What is New for Developers in Windows Mobile 6 February 10, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. This article further confirms that "Pocket PC" and "Smartphone" are gone from naming conventions of Windows Mobile (now there are only: Windows Mobile 6 Professional, Windows Mobile 6 Standard, Windows Mobile 6 Classic), confirms that 320x320 resolution is now supported (great news for future Treo smartphones!) and it explains from the point of view of developers what have changed in Windows Mobile 6.0: Windows Mobile 6 provides the tools and features that developers need to develop and deploy powerful mobile line of business applications. The inclusion of .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP1 and SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition in the ROM of all Windows Mobile 6 devices provides a powerful application platform that also simplifies application deployment. The Device Emulator 2.0 and the other tools included with the Windows Mobile 6 SDK simplify the process of developing applications that run across many different devices by providing you with the capability to more easily test your application across a wide range of Windows Mobile device features and form factors. The more than 100 samples included in the Windows Mobile 6 SDK, the Patterns & Practices Mobile Client Software Factory, and the Mobile Line of Business Solution Accelerator Kit all combine to provide you with the guidance necessary to start developing Line of Business applications immediately. Whether you’re a seasoned Windows Mobile developer or you’re preparing for your first Windows Mobile project, you’ll find that Windows Mobile 6 is the best Windows Mobile platform available for line of business applications. Regarding 320x320 support - this can't be overvalued: Palm was selling huge amounts of Treo smartphones powered by Palm OS with 320x320 resolution but was forced to use 240x240 in their Windows Mobile powered smartphones. Now this problem is resolved: Windows Mobile 6 supports also 320x320 pixels!
