3GSM 2007 review of HTC Vox aka HTC s710 February 12, 2007 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. If you are not a big fan of these touch screen devices, then HTC s710 may be something for you - super small size and equipped both with regular cellphone keypad and with slide-out QWERTY keyboard! With this solution typical problems of number dialing in QWERTY-only smartphones are gone! Not only Pieter Knook mentioned HTC s710 during the Microsoft press briefing today:
... but also Yves Maitre (Vicepresident, Devices) from Orange was talking about this phone:
... and said, that this phone will be available at Orange in Europe "in a couple of next weeks". So what are our impressions about HTC s710? We like it - the dual keyboard/keypad concept is working nicely and usability is greatly improved! The great thing about HTC s710 is that at first look it looks like a regular small mobile phone (here compared to another super-delicious HTC production - the Lobster 700):
... so you cannot be accused by anybody of being overly geeky or a braggart! However one swift movement of the keyboard and you get full QWERTY keyboard that pops up from the right side:
On the back one can find 2 megapixel camera and a memory card slot (accessible externally):
Finally the industry-standard mini-USB connector is a very nice solution:
... that is even further improved by the fact that it is covered when not used - what increases further the usability of the phone in harsh conditions of a regular pocket. Conclusion: at last here comes a small smartphone powered by Windows Mobile 6 touch-screen-less edition that offers you ability to look like a normal person because this phone is small and the fancy QWERTY keyboard is hidden. If you are not a big fan of touch-screens and you would like to stay low-key with your mobile phone, this phone is for you!
