3GSM 2007: Moto Q CDMA gets 2 brothers : Q gsm and Q q9 + secret revealed why q9 has no wheel February 15, 2007 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. What is wrong with Motorola? Why Motorola is releasing Q with support for UMTS and HSDPA but at the same time is removing such beloved feature as the scroll wheel? After all many users of BlackBerry and Sony Ericsson phones already are used to the scroll wheel and having it would be big advantage. In this story we reveal what was rationale of the scroll wheel removal... and we give our impressions about new Motorola Q phones: Q q9 and Q gsm. Subjectively we must admit that Moto Q gsm, which has exactly the same external construction as Q CDMA-EVDO, is thinner and generally much more pleasant to hold in the hand (even if we forget about the wheel - Q gsm has a scroll wheel!):
... than the Moto Q q9:
Obviously this feeling is subjective and we recommend to play with both phones before purchase! So why Motorola has not placed the scroll wheel in Motorola Q q9? The explanation, that was given to us by an employee of Motorola at 3GSM 2007 is this: because Motorola Q q9 supports progressive acceleration! In other words: if the user is holding down the DOWN key then after a couple of seconds it is accelerating rapidly, what makes scrolling of long windows (like Pocket Internet Explorer with long pages) very fast! In this way scroll wheel is no longer necessary apparently. Furthermore we have learned that Motorola Q q9 can shoot videos with resolution of 320x240 pixels and 30 frames per second - simply the ideal resolution to publish them to YouTube!
