3GSM 2007: LG Prada powered by Windows Mobile ?
February 15, 2007 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.

Where is Jack Bauer from 24 when you really need him and particularly his information extraction skills? We were grilling various Korean employees of LG, including this one:

... and this one:

... but we were not able to obtain clear information whether there is or there will be any LG Prada phone powered by Windows Mobile! How the situation looks like now?

100% for sure current LG Prada phone (LG Prada One?) is not powered by Windows Mobile - we have confirmed it from various sources and you can see it also here:

Interestingly LG at 3GSM 2007 was presenting Windows Mobile phones in 2 places. One place was where rather outdated-looking models for WiMax network were presented and the other place was in "HSDPA area", where this prototype looking Windows Mobile 6 powered phone was presented:

This phone however was physically mounted and one couldn't just take it in one's hand. There was impression that this phone is either yet in prototype stage (and thus not quite physically final) or that it is a final model covered by an ugly looking plastic!

In any case it is good to see that yet another Windows Mobile phone with HSDPA support is coming, HSDPA being just one variant of HSPA (with "D" added - HSDPA - it means fast downloads, with "U" added - HSPUA - it means fust uploads):

Here you can see that FTP client was running and it was achieving 140 kb/s upload speeds:

... what indicates that this phone is really functional and supports various HSPA technologies.

Conclusion: while current LG Prada is not powered by Windows Mobile for sure, there is nothing that can prevent LG from naming the upcoming Windows Mobile phone something like "LG Prada 2". Clearly this upcoming Windows Mobile phone from LG exists and is fully operational and clearly it looks like it can be small enough to be placed in Prada-like format. The "LG Prada is powered by Windows Mobile" myth therefore is not debunked yet and once official name of this Windows Mobile 6 phone from LG will be announced, we will know more. For now: Prada or not, yet another super exciting Windows Mobile phone is coming and since LG has huge technological expertise it may well be at the same time small and very advanced technologically!
