Microsoft forces popular community site to remove all ROM images February 15, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. It is difficult to say whether it was upon request from HTC (after all most if not all these ROM images were for HTC devices), or whether some overzealous Microsoft employee caused this debacle, but the fact is that now HTC phones will have much less support, because view of many people is: This a sad day for Windows Mobile - now there will be no way to fix an unstable device besides waiting years for the operator to release an official ROM update. T-mobile are especially bad - no ROM updates at all for the MDA Vario (Hermes) as yet - and the stock ROM simply does not work correctly. Both Microsoft and the operators just lost a loyal group of Windows Mobile fans, and a worthwhile set of beta testers. To learn more click here. Conclusion: indeed installing some new or tweaked ROM image from xda-developers.com was a "life-saver" for many people, but after all we must understand that these were mostly the geeky users, and on the other hand Microsoft could be concerned about its intellectual property and profits. After all if a dodgy upgrade to Windows Mobile 6 would be available freely on the Internet what would be incentive for users to buy new devices and for manufacturers to purchase new licenses?
