Windows Vista gadgets running in Windows Mobile - maybe or maybe not February 27, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. Mel Sampat from Microsft:
... has developed (himself or with his team) a program for Windows Mobile that can run Windows Vista gadgets (Microsoft's name for "widgets"). Gagdets (or widgets) are simple sets of HTML, JavaScript, style and image files compressed and packaged into one file, and runnable in side bar of Windows Vista. Since iPhone can run Mac OS X widgets it would be only natural that Windows Mobile can run Windows Vista gadgets... and clearly Microsoft has some proof-of-concept application for Windows Mobile, that makes it possible, but unfortunately it is not certain whether this application will ever be released to the public - it is just a proof of concept. Instead of teasing public with various applications for Windows Mobile like Xbox Live client for Windows Mobile or that Windows Vista Gadget runner, Microsoft should simply release these programs - as kind of power toys - to the public. Please note also: in the demonstration Mel Sampat from Microsoft is using HTC Wizard Pocket PC phone powered by Windows Mobile 6 but we see no reason why this gadget runner couldn't be released also for Windows Mobile 5.0 ! Conclusion: by not releasing various tools Microsoft is squandering good synergy opportunity from which Windows Mobile could benefit... After all what are all those goodies good for if only a bunch of Microsoft employees can use them and show them off ? To learn more or to watch video with demonstration, click here.
