Microsoft fails to stop illegal ROM downloading February 27, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. Recently Microsoft ordered to close down certain well known repository of ROM images - obviously illegal - for HTC manufactured phones. The people who run that website agreed with Microsoft ... but have found a away to work around this "problem" and now still plenty of ROM images, including Windows Mobile 6 for HTC Hermes and GPS-enabled image for HTC Trinity - all are STILL available in abundance. Microsoft has been fooled! Simply instead of hosting ROM images in their own servers, with their own domain name, now all forums in that website are pointing to files hosted externally, for example at RapidShare service. So basically for people nothing has changed: people are getting at that website still many illegal ROM images, including Windows Mobile 6 for free, and they are getting it all from the same place as before but this time links go to external servers. It would be interesting to see whether Microsoft will be serious about initial order of removal of ROM images or whether Microsoft will just give up seeing that now it is about links and not about hosting itself. One is for sure: NOTHING HAS CHANGED and still plethora of ROM images are available including these which Microsoft wanted to prevent from spreading - Windows Mobile 6 for various models. Since our mission is to provide maximum information to readers and not to spread software piracy, we will not provide the link to the website in question, but Microsoft and many people know it very well. Conclusion as of now: Microsoft has lost the battle.
