Live from CeBIT 2007 : Microsoft stand - squandered opportunity March 17, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. While Windows Mobile was very clearly present and underlined during Microsoft press conference at CeBIT 2007, at the stand of Microsoft (in hall 4 - accessible to everybody, not just for journalists) at CeBIT 2007:
... situation was different: ... because, unlike in former years when Windows Mobile was being presented on 2 tables, this year presence of Windows Mobile was even smaller - it was presented in digital lifestyle section:
... on one table only and only on a small part of the table (here you can see T-Mobile Ameo phone and Dell Axim PDA):
... together with other Microsoft products (including Windows Home Server, UMPC, Windows Vista notebooks and computers):
... fortunately a presentation about Windows Mobile was running also in nearby LCD HD TV (it was about productivity - strange considering it was in "digital lifestyle" section):
Conclusion: Microsoft has squandered great opportunity to present Windows Mobile phones. Probably the reason was the overexposure of newly released Windows Vista, that is selling very well and generates now big revenues. However Microsoft missed out in this way also on the opportunity to use Windows Mobile as a hook too attract customers also to other Microsoft products (synergy effects). In past we were thinking that those "2 old tables with Windows Mobile" (that were reused every year at Microsoft stand at CeBIT) was underexposure but this year Microsoft went one step further and eliminated these tables and Windows Mobile was reduced to almost nothing. Another year, another CeBIT and yet another squandered opportunity!
