HTC Shift unveiled at CTIA - HTC jumps on the UMPC bandwagon with Windows Vista powered device with HSDPA March 26, 2007 [mobile PCs (Tablet PC, mini-PC, ...)] | By Edward J. R. First device from HTC branded by HTC but not powered by Windows Mobile is "HTC Shift" - a UMPC powered by Windows Vista (with Aero and Flip3D supported), that also features cellular connectivity ( including HSDPA), Wi-Fi, 30 GB hard disk.
HTC writes: Introducing the HTC SHIFT The ultimate experience by combining innovative designs with powerful functionality and connectivity! Come see our newest product category in the Microsoft booth at CTIA, booth #963 Please note: HTC has launched at CTIA 2007 - for USA market - also HTC Advantage - a brick-sized phone - but this time it is powered by Windows Mobile 6. Conclusion: while many current makers of UMPC devices were previously (and still are) manufacturing notebooks, HTC comes to UMPC market from other direction - mobile phones and Windows Mobile. This different approach may result in better connectivity (better reception) and longer battery life. Anyway still HTC is not manufacturing Windows Mobile phones with VGA display and reasonable size, and still HTC is not making any Windows Mobile phones with touch-screen and QWERTY keyboard for single handed usage, so there is yet room for improvement... or space for competitors.
