BSQUARE SDIO Hx Product Now Supports High-Capacity Memory Cards to 32 GB for Windows Mobile Devices

BSQUARE announced the availability of SDIO Hx version 1.1, the newest release of its ultra high-performance software stack for Windows Mobile and Windows CE devices. Version 1.1 features support for next-generation high-capacity memory cards. SDIO Hx version 1.1 is the only software stack with both Windows Mobile and Windows CE support for the new Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) standard defining high-performance memory cards from above 2 GB to 32 GB.

As OEMs develop Smartphones, GPS devices, photo printers, card readers, and video cameras that require greater storage space for MP3 music files, high-resolution pictures, and video clips, demand for high-performance memory storage is increasing dramatically. Currently, a 4 GB memory card can store either 2000 digital songs or 4000 high-resolution pictures or up to 16 hours of MPEG 4 video – and with the new SDHC standard, minimum transfer rates are guaranteed.

SDIO Hx version 1.1 supports:
  • 4 – 32 GB SDHC (SD 2.0 High Capacity) memory cards and 2 GB and greater High Capacity MultiMediaCard (MMC) memory cards
  • Windows Mobile 6.0, the newest version of Microsoft’s mobile software platform, as well as Windows Mobile 5.0 and Microsoft Windows CE 5.0
  • Drivers for popular host controllers including TI OMAP 2430, TI OMAP 850, Marvell PXA270, Marvell PXA3xx and Samsung 2440
  • OEMs’ use of a single host controller to support multiple SDIO or SD slots saving BOM costs and device real estate
SDIO Hx also enables OEMs to quickly design in high-performance 802.11g Wi-Fi support with an embedded SDIO slot. The Secure Digital bus architecture is a simpler, more cost-effective way to implement Wi-Fi than other bus solutions. With SDIO Hx, OEMs get faster data transfer speeds than with other Windows CE software stacks.
