Not much Windows Mobile at WinHEC conference - mostly UMPC in the spotlight
May 16, 2007 [mobile PCs (Tablet PC, mini-PC, ...)] | By Edward J. R.

Lots of mention about mobile devices in the WinHEC keynote by Bill Gates, but he was talking about UMPC rather than about Windows Mobile...

At WinHEC conference there are working examples of the new Fujitsu-Siemens UMPC, the new Samsung UMPC, the new OQO UMPC, the Sony UMPC, and the HTC UMPC. The OQO is quoted as 5 hours battery and is using the new 45nm intel processor and chipset. No Medion UMPC at WinHEC though...

On the Windows Mobile front, forthcoming products that allow a Windows Mobile device to run a Windows Vista slideshow wirelessly was rather interesting.

3 vendors present pushing wireless USB devices - some with working hardware, and all promising mainstream adoption by 2008, what would be a nice replacement for the WiFi ActiveSync that got removed by Microsoft.
