Microsoft Pika - remote TV viewing through Media Center PC coming to Windows Mobile soon ? May 23, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. Media Center Extender (MCX) makes it possible to watch TV from Media Center PC on Xbox game console. What about ability of watching TV from Media Center PC on Windows Mobile phone? No! There is no reason to postpone purchase of SlingBox in expectation of Microsoft releasing Media Center PC player for Windows Mobile! Microsoft Pika is a technology firstly unveiled at WinHEC conference and it is rather designed to be embedded in TV sets to enable watching TV from Media Center PC on regular TV sets! Nonetheless it is first attempt of Microsoft in remote TV viewing on devices with less computing power, and sooner or later we should see also a client for Windows Mobile particularly because of compensation ability in distribution: The Pika architecture is tuned to compensate for this performance mismatch and distributes the computational load in ways that are not necessary or appropriate for PC to PC or PC to Xbox360 distribution scenarios.
