Review of Pocket Live TV - a mobile TV software from Makayama May 27, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. Available now in versions for both Windows Mobile platforms - with or without touch screens - this program, or rather service (?), gives you ability to watch TV over Internet - over 3G or Wi-Fi! Whether you would like to watch Cartoon Network or ABC News:
... or other TV channel, this application will deliver them to your Windows Mobile phone! After installation this program appears in menu as "Pocket Live TV":
When you start Pocket Live TV for the first time, you need to enter activation information, and upon succesful activation, you will see this message:
Here is the main menu of Pocket Live TV program (that appears as first screen after a launch usually):
The second scren contains flags and generally denotes channels from various countries:
... including USA:
... and UK:
... and several international channels:
... and more (including channels from Germany, Netherlands, Spain and Russia). The stability (lack of bufferinig) and quality of channels varies, including channels that offer excellent quality:
... and channels (albeit few) of poor image quality:
Some TV channels take only a part of the display, but some others fill all the space:
... and also all channels can be maximized to full screen. Conclusions: obviously Pocket Live TV is not a replacement for SlingBox/SlingPlayer, which make it possible to view your TV at home remotely, but it is a program that makes it possible to watch TV from other servers - without the need for you to set up a receiver with broadband at home! Interestingly Pocket Live TV offers international choice of TV channels so it is of interest to users in various countries. The choice of channels in this program is this what it is and while it may be expanded in the future, it is this what you can watch at this moment. It is crucial, that before buying you will try this program out - whether the choice of TV channels and the quality of reception (dependent on your mobile Internet connection) are suitable for you! All in all this program may be an excellent way to catch up on news or weather - and obviously it is up to personal needs whether it is satisfying. Technically speaking this program works but hopefuly the choice of TV channels available will be extended yet. Due to its international nature it is also interesting to take a peek at TV shows from other continents - all inside of your Windows Mobile phone!
