HTC Touch - first impressions
June 05, 2007 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.

HTC has announced and immediately released commercially HTC Touch phone! msmobiles.com was there on location !

Stay tuned! We will publish yet full audio recording of the launch + exclusive (audio) interview with John Wang from HTC, who is a Chief Marketing Officer of HTC and who essentially invented/developed HTC Touch! In meantime please watch THIS VIDEO ABOUT HTC TOUCH where Diane Studman from HTC is introducing this new phone.

In "Sound" club, that is located at Leicester Square (yes the one close to China Town and with many cinemas around the square) in London, UK, HTC corporation has organized today a launch event for journalists, that consisted mainly of presentations of Peter Chou and John Wang (both from HTC). After the presentations there was FAQ session and ...

... a time to chit-chat with HTC employees (even Jason Gordon from HTC USA was there, what indicates that it was global event). Since first operators launching HTC Touch are Orange UK and T-Mobile UK - naturally the event took place in London and representatives from T-Mobile UK and Orange UK gave short speeches.

After the event all journalists received for free HTC Touch unit - albeit one unit per publication.

What are our first impressions about this phone - after having it for several hours and playing with it, after discussions with several HTC employees ? The fact is that HTC Touch doesn't support multi-touch - ability to detect touching of the screen in more than one place at the same time - but in reality it brings new touch screen technology! This new technology works in this way that it is able to detect whether screen is touched by finger (skin) or by stylus (plastic). When touched by finger and when various gestures are carried out then HTC's software is activated that not only is just a set of additional fancy-looking applications but also enhancements of Windows Mobile 6 so that new touch screen features can be used also in Microsoft's Windows Mobile applications. Shortly speaking now using a phone is becoming much more comfortable with use of just a touch screen (and one hand!) and even selecting small user interface elements is now more precise!

Some more information from HTC about this new phone follows.

HTC Corp. , provider of Microsoft Windows Mobile-based smart devices, today announced the global launch of the HTC Touch, a deceptively small and stylish mobile phone that ushers in an innovative new concept in intuitive touch screen navigation. The HTC Touch brings a new level of simplicity to the powerful and function-rich device experience that today's mobile consumers demand.

Building on its rich ten year history of mobile phone innovations, the HTC Touch represents extensive research and development and the conviction that fingertip control will enable more efficient, natural and intuitive touch screen navigation. The groundbreaking HTC Touch offers a new and unique way of controlling touch screen-based devices by recognising and responding to the sweep of a finger across the screen. It is even intelligent enough to distinguish between finger and stylus input and then respond accordingly.

"With the HTC Touch, access to your most commonly used content, contacts and features is only a simple finger flick away," said Peter Chou, chief executive officer of HTC. "Mobile phone makers have done a great job of cramming ever-more exciting features into ever-smaller phones. But the way in which one accesses these increasingly sophisticated features has not kept pace. That ends today with the HTC Touch."
