Microsoft to release upgrade to Office Mobile to support Office 2007 file formats June 06, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. Office Mobile is available for all variants of Windows Mobile 6 and for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices with touch screen. Unfortunately still users cannot open Office 2007 documents (those with "x" in extensions like *.docx, *.pptx, *.xslx, where "x" stands for "XML") so it is great news that Microsoft officially is announcing that upgrade is coming ... and this problem will be gone! Unfortunately upgrade that would enable direct USB connection of Windows Mobile devices with Xbox 360 - both Microsoft products - still is missing... We just announced the newest version of Office Mobile 2007 which will be available as a free update starting Q3. The update will be available for both Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC and both standard and professional Windows Mobile 6 devices (those devices that shipped with Office Mobile previously). All new devices from Q3 that ship with Windows Mobile 6 will also provide Office Mobile 2007 in ROM. Office Mobile 2007 provides support for documents created in the new Office 2007 file formats (.pptx .docx .xlsx) and also includes support for FAX documents. To learn more, click here.
