Handango started forcing users to register to download trials! - going from bad to vile June 20, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. Handango - the biggest online shop with mobile software, (including Windows Mobile software) becomes even more customer-hostile with the introduction of a mandatory (!) registration just to download a trial version: Please login to your Handango Member Account to download free or trial software. If you do not already have a Handango Member Account, please enter your email address and click "continue." We will ask you for more information on the next page. Handango Membership is free! While it may be true that Handango membership is "free" in the sense that no money must be paid, the demand to enter an e-mail just to download a trial version of the software is a big limitation for developers. In practice many less people will download the trial version and even less people will buy the given software applications! Handango is giving developers the least amount of money, so we advise customers to avoid using Handango completely, and suggest using MobiHand, Motricity (PocketGear) and other ones instead. * * * * * By the way: we recommend to all developers and end customers to use (recently launched) software section of our online Windows Mobile store - that is NOT powered by Handango or any other company like Motricity/Mobihand but is totally independent, offers very high percentage of money going to developers and purchases are possible there not only with credit cards and PayPal but also with Google Checkout ... and finally: potential customers can download trial versions without the need to enter e-mail address!
