MEDC 2007 EU video : Windows Mobile business - part 1 of 2 - Mobile2Market June 26, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. In part 2 we will publish panel discussion, where it will be revealed how to write software for Windows Mobile (but not only!) in such a way that it would appeal to mobile operators (MOs) and manufacturers (OEMs) so that they will start offering your software in their shops (MOs offer software billed without credit card directly in mobile phones) or will embed your software in their devices. In part 1 however we present video, where Daniel Bouie from Microsoft USA:
... is talking about Mobile2Market certifications and signing (including good news: they are getting cheaper and simpler this year!), which are necessary condition and a requirement for most MOs and OEMs to become interested in your software! Here is the video (Flash enabled Internet browser required to view): Short summary about Daniel Bouie: Daniel leads Mobile2Market which is Microsoft’s certification and distribution program for Windows Mobile applications. In this role he focuses on building broad and deep channels for third-party mobile applications by working with software distributors, mobile operators, device manufacturers, and independent software vendors. Conclusion: clearly mobile operators (MOs) are in a position to offer software sales directly to customers - directly to mobile phones - so having your software on the offer in their shops is absolutely essential for business success. Mobile2Market is a gateway that opens for developers a lot of business opportunities, so if you are developing commercial software, and not (tree-hugging) freeware, you should watch above video and you should place your Windows Mobile software in Mobile2Market! Example: 2 representatives of Orange UK were present at MEDC 2007 Europe and they clearly stated, that Orange accepts to their its mobile software shop (not powered by Handango or any other third party!) only such Windows Mobile applications that are Mobile2Market certified. Similarly many other operators require this certification... but apart from that Mobile2Markt is a place where MOs and OEMs are actually finding interesting to them applications in the first place!
