John Starkweather from Microsoft USA moves to Microsoft Singapore June 30, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. We have been interviewing John Starkweather on numerous occasions, in USA (CES) and EU (3GSM), and chatting with him over phone for podcasting purposes. He is one of the most passionate - about mobility - employees of Microsoft's mobile and embedded division...
John Starkweather is staying in Windows Mobile team but is moving to Singapore, where his work - mostly marketing-related - will be focused on China and Japan but he also will be working with manufacturers of mobile phones from Asia. One of responsibilities of John Starkweather was: being a coordinator of invite-only Microsoft-sponsored Mobius conference/group. Now, that he moves to Singapore, obviously he will no longer be taking care of Mobius. After Derek Brown, Beth Goza (aka Beth Torrone) and Jason Gordon, John Starkweather was the latest Mobius coordinator. Microsoft employees have possibility to move within Microsoft 2 ways: to other divisions or to other countries. John Starkweather has chosen to move to another country, what is all in all good for Windows Mobile because he is not being "lost to other division". After all (!) Windows Mobile phones are manufactured in Asia, even if some of them are designed in USA (Motorola for example), so future role of John Starkweather will be important one for whole Windows Mobile for sure. In future John Starkweather will probably return to USA to a higher managerial position... but in meantime he will continue working on Windows Mobile ... in Asia!
