First pictures of HTC Omni - successor to HTC Universal - published
July 04, 2007 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.
HTC Omni still is yet deep in rumor phase but the leaked photos and specifications reveal a phone that is roughly equally big as HTC Universal but thinner, with higher resolution (800x480 instead of 640x480) and built-in GPS! This would be second phone, after Toshiba G900, powered by Windows Mobile and equipped with 800x480 resolution.
Specifications:
- 3G on board: UMTS/HSDPA (HSUPA should be too but not mentioned yet)
- display: 800x480 pixels (W-VGA - the same resolution as in Toshiba G900 that is already on sale online)
- additionally: external display available too!
- OS: Windows Mobile 6 Professional
- TV output and VGA output - similarly like HTC Advantage
- built-in GPS (assisted-GPS)
- QWERTY keyboard
- size: 130 x 81 x16 mm

Conclusion: the picture of HTC Omni is just a computer rendering, not a photo, and specifications are sketchy and might be untrue (example: the proper name is "Windows Mobile 6" and not "Windows Mobile 6.0" as the source writes) and one must notice that in past several times it has happened, that some phones from unofficial road-maps of HTC never actually were released! While HTC Omni is too big to be pocketable - like Toshiba G900 or HTC Kaiser - it has fast 3G, high-resolution display and built-in GPS, what are 3 top requirements needed by power users and can be satisfied in near future only with E-TEN Gloofish X800 ... or HTC Omni Windows Mobile phone!
