i-mate sinks more, blames Taiwanese manufacturers for failure July 13, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. Instead of blaming themselves, they blame Taiwanese... Apparently Gregor McNeil, the finance director of i-mate, is leaving. As a result a stock price of i-mate is falling rapidly. The bad financial results i-mate blames on the fact that it selected 3 new Taiwanese manufacturers and one of them has failed to deliver. Read more here. Commentary: once upon a time i-mate was a distributor, or rather re-seller, of Windows Mobile phones made by HTC. When HTC decided to promote its own brand, i-mate was forced to turn to other manufacturers, however since i-mater was thinking (!) and claiming, that it is more than just reseller, it was rude awakening: no longer i-mate could take credit for successful HTC phones and claim that it contributed to their design, etc. - and Taiwanese manufacturers, that in most cases also design these phones, are not particularly interested to offer exclusivity to a company that has no big sales. For i-mate it is time to deliver new 3G phones to the market NOW or else it will go bankrupt: customers want products in shops and not more computer generated images of forthcoming phones...
