Microsoft finacial results : growth of Windows Mobile sales slows down July 24, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. While Microsoft still is selling more licenses for Windows Mobile than in previous periods the tendency is clear - the growth is slowing down and is dangerously moving into direction of stagnation: (about whole fiscal year 2006) Mobile and Embedded Devices, which saw revenue increase 44 percent, was our fastest-growing division in 2006. [...] (about latest 3 months) Mobile and embedded devices revenue increased $30 million or 21% driven by sales growth in Windows Mobile software and Windows Embedded operating systems. Conclusion: the one-sided picture painted by certain sources is only partially truth! While it is true that choice of devices is bigger and number of mobile operators and manufacturers increases, it is also truth that global market share of Windows Mobile is not increasing. It is possible because despite increased sales, the overall size of the global smartphone market increases. Entrance of Apple into mobile phone industry practically means that global market share of Windows Mobile in smartphone market is doomed to fall in next years. On the other hand mobile operators, that are excluded from exclusive deals with Apple have additional motivation to offer appealing handsets, what may be a good opportunity for Windows Mobile phones! However this window of opportunity will close in few years when these exclusivity deals will expire...
