HTC Kaiser preview published - the best Windows Mobile phone gets better August 01, 2007 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Successor to HTC Hermes (aka HTC TyTN, etc) brings some additional goodies, including built-in GPS, smaller size, and a keyboard that can be tilted:
... and certainly it will be also a hit. With genuine scroll wheel and support for HSUPA (fast uploads), not just HSDPA, this phone will be one of the best Windows Mobile phones on the market... Diego Magnani writes: We have managed to put our hands on a fully localized sample with Italian ROM (so it is very likely that it bears the very final ROM version, meant to be commercialized) and actually we have been the first and only ones to do so. The preview shows many aspects of the Kaiser which are shown in an informal way by focusing chiefly on the device’s usability. Our tester and new editor Luca Viscardi (a longtime radio broadcasting insider with a kick out of technology) describes the features that make the Kaiser amazing. Known by its codename Kaiser so far but also by its "official" name P4550, the Kaiser is most likely to be dubbed TyTN II due to its deep resemblance with its predecessor TyTN with which it shares many specifications (and its weight most of all) but adds and A-GPS chip and a new type of keyboard that can be moved upright in order to look like a tiny notebook. That said, the downside is that the function keys are not so confortably reachable when used as a notebook. Also the battery capacity could have been a bit bigger than 1350 mAh and the rear speaker's volume gets dimmed when you place the device on a flat surface. Aside these small cons we found the Kaiser incredibly usable, reliable and solid and its UMTS/3G and 3,6 Mbps HSDPA and 3,2 Megapixel auto-focus camera combined with its powerful processor are sure to attract the attention of a big part of the market.
