Rumor: HP back in Windows Mobile 6 business - this time seriously August 09, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. Let's face the truth: HP has acquired Compaq and then it has closed Jornada line, but it imposed bad uncool HP-like design on Compaq iPAQ PDAs that previously were totally stylish. Moreover it was Compaq iPAQ PDA on which Microsoft decided to standardize Windows Mobile platform - previously Windows Mobile (Windows CE, Pocket PC) was running on 3 various types of processors... In meantime HP was releasing totally lackluster - big, without 3G - Windows Mobile phones and it is only now, in 2007, years after competition, when HP supposedly will be coming back to Windows Mobile seriously: Hewlett-Packard (HP) is expected to launch new iPAQ-series handheld devices, including PDAs, PNDs and 3G GPS PDAs, in the fourth quarter of 2007, according to sources at Taiwan-based handheld device makers. HP has stepped up its contacts with Taiwan-based makers for different segments, with the sources indicating that Quanta Computer, Inventec Appliances and Foxconn International Holdings (FIH) are likely to land new orders from HP. To learn more, click here (a source that reads local Taiwanese and Chinese press - and therefore has often some scoops in area of Windows Mobile). Conclusion: over recent years HP has squandered huge heritage and big contribution that iPAQ devices had. Let's hope that this time HP will meet expectations of users in both areas: stylish design and features...
