HTC Shift runs both: Windows Vista AND Windows Mobile ! August 12, 2007 [mobile PCs (Tablet PC, mini-PC, ...)] | By Edward J. R. By now HTC was showing the HTC Shift Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC) - during various events and conferences - only behind a glass. However recently it has given one unit of HTC Shift to a Microsoft MVP (in Tablet PC area, from GottaBeMobile site) so that he should present it during Tech Ed Australia! The biggest revelation is that HTC Shift actually runs both Windows Vista and (!) Windows Mobile and it even has 2 processors and can run 2 modes! A video review of HTC Shift is now available (here: HTC Shift running in Windows Mobile mode with "H" denoting "HSDPA" in title-bar):
... and new details have been revealed about this interesting device:
Commentary: while Windows Mobile part of HTC Shift is missing phone dialer and thus HTC Shift cannot be considered a "Windows Mobile phone" it indeed offers HSDPA connectivity what means fast 3G speeds! While Windows Vista part of the device makes it possible to run all standard PC applications, the Pocket PC (Windows Mobile) part allows for longer battery life. Clearly HTC Shift should have also phone dialer and full mobile telephony functionality, but even in this form as it is - it will certainly find many fans. Hopefully HTC will change mind and provide full phone dialer too!
