Pocket WiFi Radar released - but works only with old Windows Mobile phones August 15, 2007 [Wireless (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ...)] | By Edward J. R. Instead of just forwarding dry press information, we have tested it, and unfortunately none of Windows Mobile 6 phones seems to work with this program! WiFi Radar is a new software tool for Pocket PC that can automatically scan, find and connect to WiFi access points and automatically open your webbrowser or get your mail. All in one click.. What user gets is a radar-like user interface with looks and sounds (!) of radar:
Here are Wi-Fi settings for this program:
Unfortunately when working on Windows Mobile 6 (tested with both HTC and non-HTC phones) this application is crashing:
... and hanging with strange notifications that supposedely it is connecting:
... but in reality it fails to connect to anything! Also this application tries to install .NET CF 2.0 in Windows Mobile 6 devices what is pure nonsense because it already is pre-installed in Windows Mobile 6 in ROM image! In this situation the only way to install it, is to copy manually Pocket_WiFi_Radar.CAB to the device and open it - instead of using Setup program for Windows XP / Windows Vista. Conclusion: unless your Windows Mobile phone is not (!) running Windows Mobile 6 and is listed as explicitly supported - you shouldn't buy it. Otherwise: if you have Windows Mobile 5 or earlier and your phone is listed - you can get it to facilitate Wi-Fi connecting and finding free Wi-Fi access points. Please note: if you upgraded your Windows Mobile phone to Windows Mobile 6 and it is on the list of supported phones, then still you cannot be sure that this application will work! Please contact then the software house for individual support - before taking purchase decision. If only this application will be corrected and will work properly also with Windows Mobile 6 - then we will test it and report it to you! Stay tuned! More information from the software house follows. * * * * * New software finds free WiFi on the Pocket PC Makayama Software releases Pocket WiFi Radar 1.0 today. The Pocket PC version of it’s popular Easy WiFi Radar tool, lets mobile users scan and connect to open WiFi access points with one click. Pocket PC users may walk around while it keeps scanning untill it finds a free internet connection and gets your mail: WiFi for Dummies. Pocket WiFi Radar will connect to open hotspots automatically and shows the user exactly what it is doing in an animated radar screen. The software helps people connect to free wireless access points while on the road, with a single mouseclick. Get your mail and browse the web without being charged. The ideal WiFi-tool for frequent travellers and mobile professionals. Watch TV, make Skype calls and IM: everything's possible with a free WiFi connection. But if you have ever tried to use the Pocket PC's built-in connection manager, you know what a hassle it can be to quickly check your mail or browse the web on the go. You will have to tap multiple buttons, wait, manually browse through a list of networks and connect to one, wait again and then launch your email. Many Pocket PC users don’t use the built-in WiFi because it’s so complicated to connect. Pocket WiFi Radar automates all of this. It's main goal is to let you get your mail or surf the web as quickly as possible, without having to go through all of the connection trouble, and without having to pull your creditcard. You may walk around and it will keep scanning untill it finds a free internet connection for you. It plays a sound and opens your webbrowser as soon as it succesfully finds an open, unsecured access point. But you may also use it to connect to your WEP-secured access point, or open any other program when it connects.
