A patch for HTC s710 solves the problem of German letters August 15, 2007 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R. While English language is ambiguous when it comes to pronunciation and sometimes words written the same are pronounced differently, in German language the relation is one to one - you speak as you write. To achieve it: German language uses special characters, introduced after (!) Germans from North Germany emigrated to British isles and formed England - thus not available in English.
German language is used also in Austria and Switzerland not just in Germany, so this may be of interest to some people: While it is possible to trans-code German special characters by usage of double letters, like for example "ue" and "ae" - it is not good enough solution for most people - if given QWERTY keyboard doesn't have German characters on separate keys. Also it is possible to obtain proper German letter but it requires much more key strokes and thus is very cumbersome. Fortunately a solution has been found, where users can use German letters comfortable - with use of holding down of FN key for example. The solution is based on changing of just one file in /Windows directory and it totally changes user experience for German-speaking people! This solution works probably for another MS Smartphone with QWERTY keyboard without German letters - Samsung i600! To learn more about this solution, click here. Credit: kl1wdr
