Palm Centro from Sprint is Smallest Treo Ever August 17, 2007 [General] | By Tadd Rosenfeld. At a Tech Summit in Reston, Virginia today, Sprint gave a sneak peek of new phones coming this fall. One of them was from Palm, and was shown to a small number of financial analysts and press. Although Palm has not released any official images, we learned from reliable sources that the new Palm Centro looks similar to the device code named "Gandolf," which we reported on last week. The Centro will be Palm OS powered. However, many images circulating the web also show a version of the device running Windows Mobile (with a Vodafone logo). The Centro will be the smallest Treo ever released, take advantage of Sprint's super-high speed EVDO data network, and is targeting a young demographic, new to the smartphone space. The Centro is expected to retail initially for $99 with service activation from Sprint, who we believe has 3 months of selling exclusivity. Although this will be the smallest Treo ever released, the Centro features both a full qwerty keyboard and touch screen. We were in touch with Palm executives today about this story. They had the following to say: "There is a bigger story and we would love to brief you on the specifics closer to the actual launch timing." Stay tuned!
