i-mate updates Ultimate line website, some models get thicker September 04, 2007 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. GITEX trade-show in Dubai, UAE, is coming this month and since i-mate is also located there so they are preparing big time to present there "new" handsets... and they have just updated information about Ultimate series! i-mate has changed the images of the first to be released Ultimate 6150/8150 series devices:
One can notice, that the more official look of the devices has changed slightly and they are now black. One can also notice that the specifications on the 8150 no longer make it a very thin device: it went from an impressive 94mm x 50mm x 11mm to a sub-average 118.5mm x 60.5mm x 15.5mm. It is not certain if this is just a misprint or the actual new dimensions of the device. More info about Ultimate series: Ultimate is a new and exciting range of devices from i-mate, the specialists in Windows Mobile devices. The devices are designed with the latest in mobile technology to help you get the most from Windows Mobile and i-mate solutions. Innovation by Design The i-mate philosophy of Innovation by Design has been used in every sense to create a product range of devices that aims to re-define the category of Windows Mobile devices. From the 520MHz Intel processor, to the XGA direct video out, from HSDPA connectivity to the 262k colour VGA LCD touch screen, every component of every device provides the latest and best in mobile phone and PDA technology. To learn more visit i-mate's website devoted to phones from Ultimate series. Conclusions: having VGA display and HSDPA 3.6 Mbit/second in pocketable phone still is appealing to end users, but lack of built-in GPS may put off more sophisticated customers. Now, that HTC Kaiser is on sale, Toshiba G900 is also on sale and offers better-than-VGA resolution and ETEN X800 (HSDPA + GPS + VGA display - all in one small device) is coming soon, people interested in powerful HSDPA phone will have soon better choices. Window of opportunity for i-mate is closing rapidly - either i-mate Ultimate series will go on sale (i.e. not just announcements but commercial availability!) this month (i.e. September 2007) or i-mate can file for bankruptcy.
