Palm cancels Foleo and confirms commitment to Windows Mobile smartphones September 05, 2007 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. Palm is a rather small company - having just around 300 employees, so this decision clearly is a wise one! Foleo was supposed to be a companion to Treo smartphones with similar functions like notebook but with much smaller computing power and powered by some obscure version of Linux: 
... but since these days notebooks are incredibly cheap anyway, and people often can't be bothered with carrying more than one device, the focus on smartphones is indeed a wise decision: I have decided to cancel the Foleo mobile companion product in its current configuration and focus all of our energies on delivering our next generation platform and the first smartphones that will bring this platform to market. We will, of course, continue to develop products in partnership with Microsoft on the Windows Mobile platform, but from our internal platform development perspective, we will focus on only one. Conclusion: Foleo was based on Linux and Palm is also developing new OS, based on Linux and compatible with Palm OS, so Palm would be in situation when it would have to develop more than OS. To avoid this situation they are (now) cancelling Foleo but probably in future they could re-use the Linux based Palm OS also for future Foleo. Please note that also Nokia in past had more platforms/operating sytems, but now they focus on only one (Series60/S60). Palm's decision to support Windows Mobile in long-term is reassuring and means that Windows Mobile fans can stick to Palm without the fear that one day they will not get successor to their current smartphone...
