Windows Mobile developers, craving for Visually Stunning User Interfaces, announce related coding competition September 05, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. Microsoft did it with Windows Vista - fancy screen effects with visually stunning, fluid, transitions... but Windows Mobile still, also in version 6, has rather classical looks, which in the view of iPhone's screen effects, look outdated. Such looks may be enough for some niche enterprise applications but for mass market and consumer usage, they are not enough. Instead of waiting for Windows Mobile 7 some developers have organized competition to create user interfaces that would be impressive: Visually Stunning User Interfaces With the recent introduction of the iPhone, all of the buzz lately seems to be about visually stunning user interfaces so this month's competition is all about UI pizazz. Have you created a control that spices things up? Do you have a form layout that makes the user completely forget they're using a Windows Mobile device? Submit your code for a chance to win! To learn more, or to participate in this competition, visit home page of this coding competition. Conclusion: it is a pity that Microsoft's Windows Mobile division still doesn't understand importance of fancy screen effects, although Windows Vista division understands it very well. Let us not forget however, that fancy screen effects are not the most important innovation: to survive in long-term Windows Mobile must provide support for multi-touch technology. At press conference where Microsoft unveiled UMPC for the first time we asked a question about support for multi-touch and this question still is being avoided by Microsoft!
