Samsung SGH-i780 sighted at Gitex 2007
September 21, 2007 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.

During Gitex 2007 trade show in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, several interesting devices were presented, but some of them were no so widely publicized as the other. Interestingly a completely new Samsung phone - Samsung SGH-i780 - was also presented there!

Analysis, larger photo and certain (not guessed) specifications of this phone:

Specifications:
  • name: Samsung SGH-i780
  • Hybrid Messaging
    • QWERTY Keyboard / Full Touch Screen
    • Push E-mail / MSN
    • Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional
  • Globetrotting Internet
    • WLAN (802.11b/g)
    • All-Access HSDPA
    • Full Browser / Optical Mouse
  • Multimedia Ace
    • 2 Megapixel Camera
    • GPS with Navigation Client
Source of above specfications is a photo of Samsung SGH-i780 on a stand at Gitex 2007. To see video recording with this phone in action, click here.

Analysis: Samsung SGH-i780 may be a serious contender for HTC TyTN II (i.e. HTC Kaiser) because it offers single-handed QWERTY keyboard and on top of that it offers further innovations like "Optical Mouse" (with cursor on the display like in a personal computer!) and "Full Browser" (probably Samsung means Picsel Browser from Picsel Technologies that Samsung was licensing already previously and that offers desktop-like browsing experience - like in Safari for iPhone). Inters tingly Samsung also mentions "Full Touch Screen" what may mean similar advanced touch-screen technologies like those offered in HTC Touch (finger scrolling, fluid scrolling). While all specifications are not final yet, one is for sure: at last Samsung is getting the importance of touch-screen phones and users, who are frustrated by lack of HTC-manufactured Windows Mobile phones with single-handed QWERTY keyboard and touch-screen in one device, will finally get a viable alternative!
