HTC responds to the rumor that it will make Windows Mobile phones for Sony Ericsson September 24, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. When we have published, as April Fool's joke, a news story "Sony Ericsson phones powered by Windows Mobile coming" then Sony Ericsson representatives from London have contacted us to take it down... and even have sent a lawyer against us... but now the chance that Sony Ericsson will be indeed making (or at least branding) such phones is becoming more and more likely! This is totally unusual that a corporation is responding to a rumor but HTC indeed has responded:
* * * * * Clearly it was Chinese-language newspaper "Commercial Times" and not English-language "digitimes" that broke the news - as HTC's response states. The "estimated by the reporter" phrase can be understood as denial but not necessarily. HTC nowadays is selling their phones under their own brand, under brands of wireless carriers and still is manufacturing for other major brands, so Sony Ericson giving orders to HTC would mean further conflicts of interests. Anyway Sony Ericsson has a huge brand recognition in Europe and Asia, and is also well known in USA, so Windows Mobile phones branded by Sony Ericsson would mean that there would be only one major phone manufacturer without such phones: Nokia.
