September 2007 sales report confirms that growth of HTC continues ... but future still uncertain
October 08, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R.

HTC - a manufacturer from Taiwan that produces majority of Windows Mobile phones currently sold - still is experiencing growth... however the long-term influence of Apple iPhone on sales of HTC cannot be yet estimated properly because Apple iPhone still is not on sale in the main market of HTC: Europe.

On the other hand several mobile operators, that are disgruntled by Apple's exclusivity deals and revenue sharing demands, will be even stronger promoting Windows Mobile phones and HTC's growth therefore can continue! Also Nokia's decision to start offering their own services (music, location, etc.) - totally puts off mobile operators, that are intentionally not picking new Nokia phones to their lineups (why should they promote competitor? competitor that wants to offer many mobile services without mobile operators?) - thus opening yet another opportunity for Windows Mobile in general and for HTC in particular.

If only HTC will stay focused on improvements of their handsets and will not try to compete with mobile operators in any way, the future for Windows Mobile may be assured.

Coincidentally yet another (3rd!) factor is helping Windows Mobile: Palm OS based on Linux has been delayed till the end of 2008 and thus Palm will be forced to make more handsets based on Windows Mobile.

All in all it is yet too early to evaluate whether Apple iPhone will push Windows Mobile to tiny niche or not, but at the moment the future looks bright. Next evaluation will be due around February 2008, when sales of iPhone in Europe will be known and when HTC will be announcing new handsets for 2008.

Information from HTC follows.
