No SIM unlock for HTC Kaiser October 10, 2007 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. HTC Kaiser is now being sold not only in an unlocked version as HTC TyTN II but also through mobile operators with their branding and in SIM-locked state, i.e. working only with SIM card from given operator. Naturally some people would like to use their HTC Kaiser purchased at one operator in the other one (for example AT&T Tilt with SIM card from T-Mobile), but apparently it will not happen any time soon: ... because - MIGsofT LTD. - a company from Scotland, EU, where SIM unlocking is legal, claims that their intellectual property was stolen and therefore they will not be releasing SIM unlock for HTC Kaiser for end customers (altough they claim that it is ready already). Since it is uncertain whether next ROM upgrade will brick (i.e. render it unsable) a phone that previously was SIM-unlocked, we recommend spending a bit more money and purchasing simply an unlocked phone in first place (one avoids in this way also paying subscription fee for 1 or 2 years)! [customers from USA can purchase unlocked HTC TyTN II from our US-based store] Only in situation when given phone is available exclusively at given operator, SIM unlocking makes sense. Since MIGsofT LTD. decided to change the business model and not to sell to end customers anymore the future will show if a free soltution can be done without a public release from them. Also MIGsofT LTD. will have to proof that they indeed have a solution ready. Certain MVP negotiated to send the phone for unlocking to MIGsofT LTD. In some days more will be known. Conclusion: don't buy SIM-locked phones if you have intention to use them with SIM cards from other mobile operators. (we don't provide any links to related pages to avoid taking sides)
