Review: Opera Mini 4 for Windows Mobile November 09, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R. You don't have to wait for Opera Mobile 9, Wake3 or next version of Microsoft's Pocket IE to get full web browsing! You can do it all with Opera Mini 4! What is full web browsing? It is: - ability to see whole page in overview mode - seeing the pages in exactly the same form as they look like when viewed in desktop browsers - zooming-in and zooming-out Here is how you can get Opera Mini for Windows Mobile, that offers full web browsing: You need to have a Windows Mobile phone with Java on board (which is included in case of most Windows Mobile phones) and then you need to navigate, inside of your phone, to: operamini.com One thing you must remember, if you have English version of Windows Mobile, is to download "US English" version of Opera:
... in order to ensure that fonts within Opera Mini will appear properly! Furthermore you should remember that Opera Mini is not connecting directly to given website but is using intermediary servers that are transcoding content and sending it to Opera Mini running inside of your phone. It is not a problem because Opera company is totally anonymizing any access. In other words your phone connects to this server of Opera:
... but the website itself is being fetched by this server of Opera:
The browsing is indeed a full-web browsing but sometimes formatting is slightly different (here: picture of Heather Mills "Mucca" is not properly formatted as you can see in snapshot from desktop browser below Windows Mobile snapshot):
... and zooming-in is possible by tapping on some area (touch-screen is working very well):
Zooming-out works by pressing "back" soft-button. Conclusion: even though it is not a native Windows Mobile application, Opera Mini 4 delivers full web browsing to Windows Mobile! The fact that it uses intermediary servers may be seen as disadvantage but thanks to these intermediary servers everything is rendered properly and data traffic is small and speed of browsing is very high. Clearly already now, before web browsers with full web browsing and without intermediary servers will be available, users of Windows Mobile phones can enjoy incredibly comfortable browsing experience.
