Mobile TV revolution is powered by Windows Mobile : T600 goes on sale
November 15, 2007 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R.

In Europe analog terrestrial TV (PAL) is being switched off and now the standard for terrestrial TV is digital: DVB-T. While some manufacturers and operators offer mobile TV through 3G or through DVB-H, such mobile TV is usually just a cut-down version and requires monthly fee.

Gigabyte Communications brings out a revolutionary solution, as the first company in the world: a capacity to receive full terrestrial digital TV in regular DVB-T standard! ... so: no monthly fees and full unabridged TV broadcasting! Here is how T600 phone, that can receive regular digital TV (DVB-T), on its brilliant VGA display, looks like:

GITA-BYTE Communications’ GSmart t600: first DVB-T Roaming PDA Phone in the world

GSmart t600 displays DVB-T programs and VGA playback quality through its 2.6 inches, 260k-pixel screen. In mobile TV world, DVB-H and 3G streaming services have been launched in some European countries but these do not provide free programs and the screen quality is lower than VGA. Comparing with DVB-H pay program, GSmart t600’ s DVB-T function provide users more options for free channels and that’s where the beauty is. Currently DVB-T signals could be received in U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Spain and many other European countries are planning to launch the service in the near future.

Now DVB-T programs are not popular yet in Russia, we expect more DVB-T channels could be launched in 2008. In Russia, GSmart t600’s will be a special launch with limited qty supply in order to serve those advance business users who might travel abroad often. So those users can buy GSmart t600 locally but enjoy watching DVB-T programs on the go while traveling in other European countries. GSmart t600 special Russian version will be releasing in December 2007 via Biz Bureau’s distribution in Russia. The recommended retail price is 21990 rubbles.

More PDA phones are encompassing business as well as recreational multimedia features. We believe GSmart PDA phones with recreational features will step up to take the market lead. We also look forward to seeing the DVB-T service is getting mature and more programs will be launched later. DAB might also be integrated in the products in the near future. GSmart, of course, will keep supporting DVB-T products and providing users more professional & TV application on PDA phone.
