November 19, 2007 [General] | By Edward J. R.
MSDN is a subscription for developers - it costs over 1000 USD - and it brings to developers ability to get latest Microsoft products. The Visual Studio 2008 is the next, after Visual Studio 2005, generation of development environment from Microsoft and it includes several new improvements for Windows Mobile developers too:
- unit testing for devices
- new device emulator that can be accessed through COM for scripting and automation purposes
- Device Security Manager
- SDKs for both Windows Mobile 6 and Windows Mobile 5.0 are included - no need to download them separately
- new .NET Compact Framework 3.5 with such technologies like LINQ and WCF included now also for devices
Conclusion: Microsoft treats very seriously mobile software development for Windows Mobile and by including mobile improvements in the main development environment Microsoft proves it. The Visual Studio 2008 is shipping starting today - as planned and without delays - and Windows Mobile developers can rejoice too!
