Windows Mobile 6.1 screenshots leaked
December 04, 2007 [MS Smartphone] | By Edward J. R.
It is not a secret - it was revealed by Microsoft itself on many occasions - that minor upgrade to Windows Mobile will be released in first quarter of 2008 - because then new ROM upgrades will have to be released to ensure compatibility with System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 (server product). Interestingly Microsoft by the way of this upgrade will be also improving looks and features of Windows Mobile...
Screenshots of Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard (i.e. the one for smartphones without touch-screen) has leaked and now are available for viewing for everybody, not just for participants of Mobius 2007. Some new features of the new OS:
- Copy / Paste (finally!)
- Domain Enroll in Settings (Enrolling in a domain will connect your device with company resources.)
- New home screen (pan left and right to check out missed calls, notifications like email, sms, etc.)
- Change Master Security Code
- Added text input settings
- Recent Programs when pressing Start menu
Threaded SMS!
- When you compose an email, or SMS, and start typing the name of the contact in the "To:" field, the contact names finally pop up like Windows Mobile Professional!
- Internet Explorer now lets you define a homepage, and also zoom in and out using a nice and clean interface

Conclusion: it's all evolution and not revolution! It's good to see however that apart from improved looks (new home screen with carousel menu known from Microsoft's patent of mobile GUI) also some functional features have been improved.
