Windows Mobile powered Treo 800w misses Christmas 2007 shopping period ? December 08, 2007 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. It looks like new major product from Palm, possibly Windows Mobile powered, has just missed the window of opportunity of Christmas shopping period and will not be released this quarter. It is very strange that Palm is blaming certification issues but in the context of poor overall financial performance of Palm it may be that CEO of Palm has just found yet another excuse: "We are disappointed that we did not get a key product certified for delivery in the quarter, but we are focused on realizing the long-term benefits and opportunities that inspired our transaction with Elevation Partners. We are pleased with recent improvements in our product delivery engine, the early success of Palm Centro, and the significant progress we've made on our strategic platform," said Ed Colligan, Palm president and chief executive officer. Conclusion: Palm still has failed to release a smartphone with WiFi and their effort to release their own Linux-based Palm OS may be counterproductive considering that Google's Android is also Linux-based. Since Palm's new OS based on Linux will be ready most likely in second half of 2008 most new phones from Palm will be probably Windows Mobile based.
