i-mate Ultimate phones go on sale - but not the ones with GPS December 13, 2007 [Pocket PC phone] | By Edward J. R. i-mate told us that i-mate Ultimate phones will go on sale in early December 2007. It didn't happen. Now it is happening but the new most appealing models (see picture nearby!) - those with built-in GPS - 8502 and 9502 - are not available yet, but only Ultimate 6150 and the 8150. It looks like i-mate will miss Christmas 2007 shopping period when it comes to their models with GPS and since nowadays no high-end smartphone can afford being GPS-less, and since i-mate has not scored yet any deals with mobile operators, the window of opportunity for i-mate is closing rapidly! The Ultimate 6150 and the 8150 both powered by 520 MHz Intel PXA processors, with Quad-Band GSM/EDGE, Tri-Band UMTS/HSDPA, WiFi 802.11b/g/e/i connectivity, direct XGA video out [...] According to Jack Craine, General Manager MEA and India: "There has been a lot of anticipation amongst our customers, channel partners and followers for the top-of-the-range Ultimate products. With renewed focus on our home in the Middle East, and our commitment to our valuable retail partners established over the past five years as leaders in the touch screen category, we expect the Ultimate devices will now set a new standard in mobile handset technology and become the phone of choice for the discerning consumer."
