The last CES keynote of Bill Gates January 07, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R. For 10 years Bill Gates was giving keynote at CES - the biggest in USA (but 3 times smaller than CeBIT) - trade show. Since this year Bill Gates is leaving Microsoft officially (practically he will be advising still) this year's keynote was special. From the point of view of Windows Mobile, Bill Gates mentioned that 10 million Windows Mobile phones were sold in 2007 and next 10 million will be sold in 2008. Furthermore unannounced Palm Treo was spotted during this keynote:
... as well as some remote-future design of a phone powered by Windows Mobile 9 probably:
All in all neither Windows Mobile 7 nor Windows Mobile 6.1 were presented. Also neither Silverlight for Windows Mobile nor Xbox Live for Windows Mobile were announced. Generally from the point of view of Windows Mobile - evolution, evolution and evolution, and no revolution, and it looks like Bill Gates never really had a true passion for Windows Mobile. Robbie Bach, boss of both Xbox and Windows Mobile divisions, said during this keynote that "Windows Mobile outsells BlackBerry, outsells iPhone" although iPhone just started sales and although only small part of Windows Mobile phones are used as email devices, while all BlackBerry devices are used for this purpose. Robbie Bach presented also Tellme service where users can find points of interests (like cinemas) and buy ticket - all with voice only. However Tellme service was NOT presented on a Windows Mobile phone but on some other regular phone... To learn more or to watch the whole keynote, click HERE.
