ibis Browser DX released - promises much faster Internet browsing January 08, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R. While Wake3 company that claims to have Webkit-compatible Internet browser for Windows Mobile still has not released it to the public, further increasing probability that it is vaporware, and while Opera Mobile 9 with full AJAX still is not released, here comes yet another Internet browser, made by Japanese company: ibis Browser DX ! This browser doesn't support AJAX as our AJAX test has proven (it doesn't support JavaScript at all, not just AJAX), but it offers many other features, like a mouse cursor, which you can very precisely position over links:
... and tabs (switchable with keyboard/keypad shortcut):
... and here is overview of features available in menu items:
While this program is available for free in trial version, it looks like it will be some kind of subscription service: model of the ibisBrowserDX Consumers use the ibisBrowserDX for pay ($3 for a month) ... but if they would force users to pay monthly fee then nobody would use it! Furthermore we have tested it, and similarly like Opera Browser Mini, this browser is using an intermediary server to fetch websites, so your Windows Mobile phone connects to that server first and only later it connects to the target website. In other words it is not a regular browser but just a viewer that uses server(s). Unlike Opera - a rather big Norwegian company - this browser is offered from unknown company, what means that practically security is not guaranteed, so we advice everybody to be cautious and use it just for casual browsing but not for password entering...
