MEDC no more, mobile developers no longer important to Microsoft ? January 17, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R. Microsoft has cancelled yearly MEDC event - a conference for mobile and embedded software developers. What next? Mobius? What was MEDC? Here is the description of the latest one from Microsoft: Mobile and Embedded DevCon (MEDC) is a global connected community of events focused on collaborative learning, shared knowledge and practical hands-on development. This year's event featured more than 140 technical sessions and 60 labs tailored for developers, IT professionals and business professionals looking to innovate and scale their mobile and or embedded development investments, applications and solutions. Here is a quote from a Microsoft employee about the MEDC cancellation: now it's official: there will be no MEDC (Mobile & Embedded Developers Conference) in 2008, neither in the U.S. (used to be held in Las Vegas), nor any of the world-wide events. Instead, Microsoft will focus on other developer and industry events, like TechEd and ESC West, and cover mobile & embedded development there. Conclusion: Windows Mobile is being pushed to the niche even stronger - and not just by competition but also by Microsoft itself . While mobility for other corporations is a key facilitator, in Microsoft it still is just an afterthought.
