Mobile World Congress 2008 Live: First WebKit Browser on Windows Mobile February 11, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R. Never mind Wake3 and their vaporware, because here comes another company that is providing Webkit-based (i.e. the same as in iPhone) Internet browser for Windows Mobile! More information from the source follows. * * * * * One of the things that makes the iPhone so cool is the power of the onboard browser, right? You know -- the whole rotating screen thing, that great zoom effect, touchscreen control, and all the other stuff that makes users of other smartphones green with envy. Well at Mobile World Congress 2008, a new company called Torch Mobile will be showing off the first browser for Windows Mobile-based handhelds developed using the same WebKit core that powers the iPhone browser (and Safari, Google Android, etc.). Many of the team members at Torch Mobile, including the President and lead developer, have been key contributors to the WebKit development community since 2003 – they’re now turning that experience to good use by launching their own new company and first product: the Iris Browser. The launch is on Monday, Feb 11th, on stand 2C72, Hall 2 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. If you’re interested in seeing the Iris Browser in action, drop by the stand at the show, or visit torchmobile.com.
