Mobile World Congress 2008 Live: the show has officially started !!!
February 11, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R.
We are reporting to you live from Barcelona, EU, from the press centre of the Mobile World Congress 2008 - the most important event in mobile phone industry in the whole year!
We (2 our editors) are on location at Mobile World Congress 2008 the whole week i.e. to the very end - till Friday evening - so we will be covering succesively everything related to Windows Mobile yet... (just contact us! so that we can meet and cover your stand or products - or if you have simply suggests what to cover in bigger depth) .... but in meantime here are the first impressions :
- Microsoft employees are incredibly happy now because they now provide Windows Mobile operating system to 4 out of 5 biggest mobile phone makers in the world (except for Nokia that still doesn´t get that some customers simply want Windows Mobile. Point.) and Microsoft in general provides various software (DRM, wireless ActiveSync with Push email for Microsoft Exchange) to all 5 of them - including Nokia.
- we apologize for Cloverfield-style (shaky) videos from the Sony Ericsson press conference but we learned too late about this massive announcement and we actually had to use special skills to even enter that event! Even though we had a tripod it would be impossible to use it - unless this tripod would be 3 meters tall.
- the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 phone is manufactured by HTC
- HTC has no press conference event this year although they are present with several stands, and they make 3 announcements at this show. HTC will unveil wholly new products during launch event in London, that will take place after Mobile World Congress 2008.
- Hal and Werner from popular American paper magazine about Windows Mobile are at this conference too, so expect some coverage in future numbers of this excellent publication
- the number of new Windows Mobile handsets that will be unveiled at this conference will not be very big (we spotted for example low-end Samsung SGH-i200) but we will be covering everything, including many new phones that previously leaked here or there but now are being officially announced or released to the market. Also some interesting services and products for Windows Mobile users are being presented.
- stay tuned for more! the show goes on...
