Mobile World Congress 2008: ShowStoppers event February 20, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R. Unfortunately timing of this ShowStoppers was in conflict with Sony Ericsson press event, where their first Windows Mobile phone was unveiled for the first time to the public - a huge milestone in Windows Mobile history - so we had to leave ShowStoppers early. If only ShowStoppers would be organized earlier we could cover it in bigger detail... ShowStoppers event - a preview of some companies for journalists - was taking place one day before Mobile World Congress 2008 started and it was located in a mid-size room in a hotel in the centre of Barcelona:
One of the stands with biggest number of people around it was the one of Samsung:
... but no Windows Mobile phones were presented and the nice Korean lady informed us that Samsung i780 will be presented at the Mobile World Congress 2008 itself. From the point of view of Windows Mobile, the most interesting at this ShowStoppers was the one of Opera company:
... where the revolutionary Opera Mobile 9.5 was presented:
As you can see above we have checked whether it is using proxy servers of Opera or not (it is not) and we were testing it for the first time. Later we also recorded video interview with CEO of Opera and further demonstrations of this browser in acton (coming soon). Another interesting stand was the one of Neomedia Technologies, where 2D barcodes were presented:
We were also talking to smaato company specialized in mobile advertising:
We have met at ShowStoppers also Dave Graveline and recorded his video confession that he is using Windows Mobile and he likes it! Several other companies were present at this Showstoppers event, including Skype, but we have not managed to check them in detail because we had to leave early to go to the historical (for Windows Mobile) Sony Ericsson press event, that was overlapping with ShowStoppers unfortunately... All in all ShowStoppers was worth visiting and journalists could get acquainted in a relaxed atmosphere with offerings of the participating companies.
