CeBIT 2008: Microsoft releases commercially Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager March 03, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R. Instead of doing direct announcement of Windows Mobile 6.1 at Mobile World Congress 2008 last month, Microsoft relies on partners - operators and manufactures - to release/announce this new version that is required to use Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager - a server-based product from Microsoft for enterprise mobility. It looks like T-Mobile is the first customer, that will be offering Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager... and this year there is even a "Mobility Counter" at Microsoft's stand! More information from Microsoft and (!) T-Mobile follows. * * * * * CeBIT: Microsoft and T-Mobile help business customers to get mobile Microsoft and T-Mobile are to continue their successful cooperation in the future. T-Mobile is offering three different packages for giving employees mobile Internet connectivity. Customers can choose an individual solution to meet their specific needs. The ‘Big Package’ incorporates the Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager. This enables the IT administrator to manage all the company’s mobile devices centrally and securely. At CeBIT Microsoft and T-Mobile are presenting their push e-mail offers at the T-Mobile Business Customer and Dealer Center, as well as at the Corporate Solutions and Digital Lifestyle sections and Mobility Counter at the Microsoft stand in hall 4, stand A26. Microsoft and T-Mobile have upgraded their current offer – the MDA Messaging Solution – and compiled three new packages for business customers. With these packages companies can give their employees quick, easy and stable-cost access to all Outlook information, their own applications and the Internet. In addition, the Windows Mobile devices are equipped with their own versions of the Microsoft Office applications. This makes it possible to open attachments such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. The Word and Excel formats can be edited and the modified document sent off as an attachment. The Internet connection can set up be via GPRS, Edge, UMTS or WLAN. All-in-one packages for every corporate profile Microsoft and T-Mobile are offering their business customers packages that can be individually tailored to what infrastructure the company already has, what kind of use is planned and how many users there will be. Equipment, rates and services will be geared to match the company’s needs. The Microsoft Exchange Server solution targets all T-Mobile business customers with a medium-sized to large workforce. For large companies requiring stringent security on the administration of the devices, we recommend the ‘Big Package’, which includes the System Center Mobile Device Manager (SCMDM). The SCMDM supports device management by the company’s IT administrator and guarantees a high level of security. For example, the SCMDM can be used to install a software update on all the company’s mobile devices by wireless transmission without devices being physically connected to the network. The Hosted Exchange solution is intended for smaller companies that do not have an exchange server of their own but nevertheless use Microsoft Push E-Mail. “We are delighted about the successful cooperation with T-Mobile”, says Andreas Krieg, Director Mobility, Microsoft Germany. “We are combining the expertise of Microsoft and T-Mobile and enabling our business customers to make the workplace accessible from any location”. “Microsoft is an important partner for us and together we can successfully offer innovative products in the Mobile Office field,” says Patrick Molck-Ude of T-Mobile Deutschland. “Thanks to some innovative solutions we are offering our customers a real value-add here”. First smartphone under the System Center Mobile Device Manager The MDA Compact IV, equipped with GPS and HSDPA, will be the first smartphone to support the corporate solutions under the System Center Mobile Device Manager. Microsoft and T-Mobile will present the extended packages at several customer events. Joint activities will begin in early April 2008. Source: T-Mobile press info.
