T-Mobile has NOT dumped MS Smartphone, just delayed it a bit May 16, 2003 [MS Smartphone] | By anonymous 1. Original plans of launching the MS Smartphone by T-Mobile were: June 2003, but T-Mobile decided that the device code named "Tanager" and produced by HTC from Taiwan is not mature enough yet. Although this decision about delaying MS Smartphone by T-Mobile may be considered as a setback for Microsoft´s plans to enter cell phone industry, one must keep in mind, that it has nothing to do with T-Mobile abandoning plans to release MS Smartphone. Some quote from The Wall Street Journal: A spokesman for T-Mobile, a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG, said that the phone isn´t ready to be launched because it is "not of the quality we expect." He said that the handset, which runs Microsoft´s Smartphone software and is to be made by HTC Corp. of Taiwan, should still go on sale this year. A spokesman for Microsoft said the "exact launch date" of the T-Mobile phone "is still to be confirmed" and the two companies still have a "good working relationship." T-Mobile spokesman said also: "We won´t market this handset for the time being". Please note: "for the time being" does not mean "never". Make no mistake: Microsoft is on track to enter cell phone industry big time, and these initial teething problems will be soon over.
