OCR for Windows Mobile from ABBYY April 02, 2008 [General] | By Edward J. R. How about OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software for your Windows Mobile phone ? Well, ABBYY Software House has released OCR SDK that works also for Windows Mobile but it is an offer mainly for manufacturers of phones and there is no application available for purchase for end users (consumers): ABBYY Mobile OCR SDK is an OS-independent, small code-size OCR development toolkit specially designed for creating OCR solutions running on mobile devices or in "instant OCR" applications. It can be integrated into any mobile application or platform including Windows Mobile, Brew, Symbian, LINUX and others as well as into PC utilities Using ABBYY Mobile OCR SDK, hardware, software, telecom service, and mobile application providers can add powerful new functionality to their products. ABBYY OCR technology transforms images into manageable text which can be saved or stored, edited, or sent via email or SMS. Applications based on the Mobile OCR SDK will transform notes, business cards, newspaper clippings, menus, and other texts captured via a mobile imaging device into useful data. Since cameras that are built-in into most Windows Mobile phones (still) deliver pictures of rather low quality, maybe time is not ripe yet for OCR in Windows Mobile world... although some companies are already offering QR-code scanners and business card reading and recognizing software...
